Wellbeing With
Zen Shiatsu

Welcome to Wellbeing
with Zen Shiatsu

Here the Japanese tradition of Zen wisdom meets the ancient Chinese tradition of bodywork, to bring holistic wellbeing into the modern world's busy life.

Shiatsu is a form of Japanese massage therapy derived from anma and evolved from the earlier Chinese practice of tui na, a bodywork system that arrived in Japan in the Nara period (710–793 CE).

Shiatsu can be used to treat acute and chronic conditions such as body aches, injuries, stiff joints and pains in the neck, shoulders, arms, abdomen, hips, knees and feet, as well as help with emotional trauma or other difficulties.

The treatments use palm and finger pressure, along with assisted stretching and joint manipulation, to rebalance the bodies meridians by moving and restoring the flow of Ki, bringing physical wellbeing and emotional balance. Shiatsu always meets you where you are.

The practice was further developed into 'Zen Shiatsu' by Shizuto Masunaga (1925-81), to incorporate the Zen totality of a persons experience, Masunaga's Amoebic Theory of our energetic movements, The Five Element Theory which recognizes the energetic phases of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water as they are reflected in the bodies meridians or energy channels, as well as western anatomy and physiology.

My treatments are primarily carried out at my home in the beautiful Cumbrian town of Kendal, although treatment visits to your home within the area are also possible.

I have offroad parking and the toilet is up one flight of stairs on the first floor. In case of special accessibility needs, ie ground floor toilets, treatments can be arranged at the Castle Street Community Center in Kendal.

I tailor my treatments, which last approximately one hour, to meet your individual needs, ensuring a personalized approach to support your relaxation and revitalization.
The treatments are carried out on a comfortable futon mat on the floor, while the client receives their treatment wearing loose fitting clothing. It is recommended that clients have not eaten directly before treatment and that they allow for a rest period after treatment to allow the energy realignments to settle. Seated treatments are also available for those with limited mobility.

I am a professional member of The Shiatsu Society Uk, MrSS (Member registered to the Shiatsu Society), having qualified in July 2026 after studying at the Shiatsu College in Manchester for three years to achieve a Shiatsu Diploma. During the studies I completed over 500 hours of training including more than 200 hours of peer reviewed hands on practice. The Shiatsu College Manchester has a rigorous but also fun training curriculum, with a reputation for producing well informed and caring professional Shiatsu practitioners.

The course focused on personal development, Ki awareness, an understanding of the meridians' mind, body and spirit associations, developmental exercises including simple QiGong practices, an introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndromes, an in-depth knowledge of Western Anatomy and Physiology/Pathology  and The Shiatsu Society Professional Code of Conduct and Ethics.

The extensive nature of this Shiatsu training establishes the Shiatsu Societies high standards in holistic therapy  and body work, has prepared me to offer a professional practice, always given with compassion and understanding.

Treatment Testimonials

I have had several Zen Shiatsu session swith Titus and can highly recommend him. His knowledge, care and compassion are outstanding. The results after each session were tangible on various levels,  - physical, emotional and energetically. The benefit is beyond words and is a complete energy reset.
Ondray Botkoveli, 2026Holistic Therapist and Gong Practitioner.

I was recommended by a close friend for Zen Shiatsu with Titus because of various issues over the past few years including  family matters and a car accident in 2025. During the first treatment I felt tension and soreness in certain areas worked on 'release'. The following week I was aware of less mind chatter, felt calmer, more focused and noted improved joint movement. I was also given breathing exercises which have helped. At times following the second treatment I felt emotional and weepy which I realized was my bodies way of 'letting go'.

I know without a doubt that Zen Shiatsu treatment is the right way forward for me. I am more positive, confident and intend to continue with treatments. Titus is a caring, considerate and confident man, passionate in his work. I felt completely comfortable, at ease and cared for during the treatments. I have no hesitation in recommending him and the holistic treatment he provides in such a calming environment.
Patricia Ellen Mary Connell, 2026.Aromatherapist, with a registered diploma at the ISPA, as well as voluntary work in a hospice environment, care home and women's center.
